Fire...
This isn't a real exciting post...no pictures yet, because we're not at our house. Ryan was at the BYU game yesterday afternoon, and Klous & I were out running errands...Ryan got a call from our neighbor, and then called to inform me that our HOUSE WAS ON FIRE. We were both freaking out, didn't know what to do, and rushed home as quick as we could. When I got there, I pulled around the corner to see 4 firetrucks, 4 ambulances, and 3 police cars!!! I grabbed Klous out of the car, and was welcomed, hugged, supported, and helped by AMAZING friends, neighbors, and ward members. Come to find out the fire started on the other side of our duplex...when I got there, they had it all under control and out. The fire fighters asked for my keys, and to check our side and make sure things were alright. We have smoke damage, and our place is REAL stinky...but that's all. The other side however is a total loss...it's so sad and gross. It started from a tea candle in the bathroom, that either started the medicine cabinet on fire or dripped into the garbage can. The bathroom looks nothing like a bathroom, it's just a black hole. All the walls and rooms are all black and it got so hot it melted EVERYTHING. Neither of us had renter's insurance...which sucks for us, but not nearly as much as it sucks for the neighbors, considering they've lost a LOT. There were 3 or 4 firemen that told us we were VERY lucky, because they've never seen a fire like that, in a duplex like ours, that didn't destroy the entire building. The neighbors walls are completely black, and ours are completely white...it's truly amazing how things worked out. We're all safe and okay, our things stink, but that's something we can deal with or take care of. I'll post more and update you all when we know more. We're not real sure what needs to be done, or how to deal with all of the things we need to do. Stay tuned for pictures and more info...but as of now we're all just fine!!! Very grateful and happy that no one was home, and we still have each other!!
Becki that is so scary! I am so glad that it sounds like most of your stuff is okay and that nobody was home. You just really don't expect something like this to happen. If you need any help with anything just let me know!
ReplyDeleteHOLY COW!!! That is the scariest thing i've ever heard (well, and the time my car tried to kill me.) I AM SO GLAD YOU AND YOUR STUFF IS JUST STINKY! Can you say "tithing blessing"? I have a steam cleaner that is pretty good at deodorizing furnature... you can borrow it if you want. ;) Are you going to get renters insurance now? I was just complaining about paying renters insurance, but now I am not, because I'm willing to pay for peace of mind. I hope the after math is okay.
ReplyDeleteHoly poo, that sucks! We really sorry to hear about the damage, but glad you guys are okay. I was just thinking about how Ryan, Chris and I were talking about getting renter's insurance at Klous's b-day party. I know who I'm calling tomorrow. Let us know if there is any way we can help out...I can come fart in your apartment to make things smell better if you want!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt...and we might take you up on the farting thing!! Anything would smell better then the smoke right now I think!!! Yeah...we'll be calling about renter's insurance tomorrow as well!!!
ReplyDeleteBecki! Holy Cow! i am glad that you guys are ok!!!! what a blessing that nothing happened to your apt! if you need anything let me know!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a story. Luckily things were not nearly as bad as they might have been. This is one of those stories you'll be able to look back and laugh at someday. Too bad it's getting colder, otherwise you could open your windows to air things out. You may want to do that anyways! Being cold is probably better than smelling like smoke. Let us know if we can do anything to help.
